Knowing how to retire overseas comfortably can save you thousands of dollars. There are many exotic and beautiful locations throughout the world that you can retire in for much less money than in the United States of America. Many locations will not even require you to learn a foreign language because English is spoken everywhere.

RESEARCH EARLY ON - Begin researching possible locations as soon as possible. You will want to know everything about a location before you purchase land and/or move there. There are so many locations around the world, you will need to decide what you are looking for in a retirement destination. Beach or winter wonderland? Big city or cabin in the woods? Whatever you think you are looking for it is best to research it thoroughly and then test it out. Take a month long vacation at your top retirement destination choice. A month will give you a good look at reality at your destination.

OTHER AMERICANS - Find out where other Americans are living in large numbers. You may be more comfortable retiring overseas if the path has already been blazed for you. If there are other Americans retiring in the area, it just may be to your benefit. There are Americans all over the world, so you will most likely be able to find help and guidance any where that you choose to go.

You will easily be able to find out how to purchase land and all citizenship requirements. Some countries may not allow you to purchase land directly. You may have to start a company in that country and buy land under the company's name. Each country will have it's own requirements.

DON'T OVER BUY - Buy a property that is only what you need at first. If it turns out that the location is not what you expected at least you did not invest too much in it. You may be able to sell and try your second retirement destination. Hopefully that will not happen, but this is your retirement and to be safe, you do need to plan for the worst and hope for the best.

If you love the area and want to stay, you will be able to find the right property at the right price after you have lived there for awhile. You will also have a better idea of the location that is best for you.
