How to Start Your Own Clothing Company

To start your own clothing company, it is best if you have some talent in fashion design. You do not necessarily need to have talent sewing because you can always hire a seamstress. It is a very fun and exciting industry as well as competitive. If you are interested in the fashion world, it is best to jump right in and get started.

DESIGN CLOTHING - Your first step is to design something new. Once you have it designed, you will need to physically create it. If you do not have the talent to sew up your first design yourself, you can ask a friend or hire a seamstress to do it for you. It is very important to have a physical garment in your hands to show interested parties.

In this industry you do not really have a business until you have someone that is interested in your fashions, therefore, you can wait to actually start your physical company, open business accounts, file a fictitious business name statement and print your stationary. You may want to create business cards to help get the word out even if your budget is small.

GET THE WORD OUT - Start with small boutiques to get the word out about your fashion designs. You can start your own clothing company by offering your designs to small boutiques that may resell them to their customers. Remember that Colonel Sanders received 1000 no's before he received a yes to his chicken recipe. Do not give up. Get your face and your designs in front of as many people as possible.

ONLINE PRESENCE - Create a website for your fashion designs. If possible, the site should have a retail link so that interested customers can buy your designs. At minimum it should be a link to you in case someone is interested in your clothing line.

FASHION SHOW - Put together a fashion show once you have enough products. You can rent a space, even if it is an inexpensive hall, and put on a fashion show. Send out invitations to everyone you can think of including teachers at your design school, fellow fashion designers, boutique owners and others in the industry that you have contact with or that are in the area. Make your fashion show as professional as possible. Have family and friends donate their time to help you put it together and make it a success.

Now that you know how to start your own clothing company, you should get started designing as soon as possible.
